{"id":199,"date":"2020-12-09T16:26:43","date_gmt":"2020-12-09T16:26:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sothwy.org\/readings\/?p=199"},"modified":"2021-03-03T20:46:28","modified_gmt":"2021-03-03T20:46:28","slug":"moses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sothwy.org\/readings\/2020\/12\/09\/moses\/","title":{"rendered":"Moses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>December 9<\/strong>&nbsp;<em>Moses:<\/em>&nbsp;Ex. 2:1-10&nbsp;<em>Symbols:<\/em>&nbsp;baby in basket, river and rushes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1><strong>Exodus 2:1-10<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a Levite woman.&nbsp;<strong><sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was a fine baby, she hid him three months.&nbsp;<strong><sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>When she could hide him no longer she got a papyrus basket for him, and plastered it with bitumen and pitch; she put the child in it and placed it among the reeds on the bank of the river.&nbsp;<strong><sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>His sister stood at a distance, to see what would happen to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her attendants walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid to bring it.\u00a0<strong><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>When she opened it, she saw the child. He was crying, and she took pity on him. \u201cThis must be one of the Hebrews\u2019 children,\u201d she said.\u00a0<strong><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then his sister said to Pharaoh\u2019s daughter, \u201cShall I go and get you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Pharaoh\u2019s daughter said to her, \u201cYes.\u201d So the girl went and called the child\u2019s mother.\u00a0<strong><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Pharaoh\u2019s daughter said to her, \u201cTake this child and nurse it for me, and I will give you your wages.\u201d So the woman took the child and nursed it.\u00a0<strong><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>When the child grew up, she brought him to Pharaoh\u2019s daughter, and she took him as her son.
