1 Samuel 16:1-13<\/strong> <\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

16 <\/strong>The Lord said to Samuel, \u201cHow long will you grieve over Saul? I have rejected him from being king over Israel. Fill your horn with oil and set out; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.\u201d 2 <\/sup><\/strong>Samuel said, \u201cHow can I go? If Saul hears of it, he will kill me.\u201d And the Lord said, \u201cTake a heifer with you, and say, \u2018I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.\u2019 3 <\/sup><\/strong>Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; and you shall anoint for me the one whom I name to you.\u201d 4 <\/sup><\/strong>Samuel did what the Lord commanded, and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, \u201cDo you come peaceably?\u201d 5 <\/sup><\/strong>He said, \u201cPeaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord; sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.\u201d And he sanctified Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, \u201cSurely the\u00a0Lord\u2019s anointed is now before the\u00a0Lord.\u201d 7\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But the\u00a0Lord\u00a0said to Samuel, \u201cDo not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the\u00a0Lord\u00a0does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the\u00a0Lord\u00a0looks on the heart.\u201d\u00a08\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. He said, \u201cNeither has the\u00a0Lord\u00a0chosen this one.\u201d\u00a09\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, \u201cNeither has the\u00a0Lord\u00a0chosen this one.\u201d\u00a010\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, and Samuel said to Jesse, \u201cThe\u00a0Lord\u00a0has not chosen any of these.\u201d\u00a011\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Samuel said to Jesse, \u201cAre all your sons here?\u201d And he said, \u201cThere remains yet the youngest, but he is keeping the sheep.\u201d And Samuel said to Jesse, \u201cSend and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.\u201d\u00a012\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and had beautiful eyes, and was handsome. The\u00a0Lord\u00a0said, \u201cRise and anoint him; for this is the one.\u201d\u00a013\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the presence of his brothers; and the spirit of the\u00a0Lord\u00a0came mightily upon David from that day forward. Samuel then set out and went to Ramah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
