Matt. 1:18-25<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18 <\/sup><\/strong>Now the birth of Jesus the Messiahtook place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 <\/sup><\/strong>Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. 20 <\/sup><\/strong>But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, \u201cJoseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 <\/sup><\/strong>She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.\u201d 22 <\/sup><\/strong>All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

23 <\/sup><\/strong>\u201cLook, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
    and they shall name him Emmanuel,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

which means, \u201cGod is with us.\u201d 24 <\/sup><\/strong>When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, 25 <\/sup><\/strong>but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luke 1:26-38<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,\u00a027\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin\u2019s name was Mary.\u00a028\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And he came to her and said, \u201cGreetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.\u201d 29\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.\u00a030\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The angel said to her, \u201cDo not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.\u00a031\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.\u00a032\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David.\u00a033\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.\u201d\u00a034\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Mary said to the angel, \u201cHow can this be, since I am a virgin?\u201d\u00a035\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The angel said to her, \u201cThe Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be bornwill be holy; he will be called Son of God.\u00a036\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren.\u00a037\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For nothing will be impossible with God.\u201d\u00a038\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then Mary said, \u201cHere am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.\u201d Then the angel departed from her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
